Kayaking the fjordsKayaking the fjords
The feeling of the silent glide on the water in beautiful and untouched nature is fantastic. If you have a good sea kayak with watertight rooms, you can bring enough food and equipment for days. You can combine kayaking with great walks on the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Read and view pictures from kayak trips in some of the fjords and lakes in Western Norway.

Hiking in Fjord NorwayHiking in Western Norway
Hiking is very popular in Norway. The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) have a total of 342 huts spread around the country. In most of the huts, there are food, firewood and gas, and you can get a key from DNT which fits to all the huts. The best time for hiking in Norway are from June to September. Here you will find some travelogs from Western Norway and from other great areas in Norway.

Cycling in Western NorwayCycling
There are many possibilities for great bike rides in Fjord Norway. One of the finest and most famous is the 82-kilometer long Rallarvegen (the Navvies Road) running from Haugastøl to Flåm. Other fine cycling excursions are: Island hopping by bike in the area around the Atlantic Road in Møre og Romsdal. The Fjord and Mountain Route which is a round trip starting at Rosendal in Hardanger. The Coastal Route in Hordaland, where Austevoll is a good starting point. And finally, we can mention Fjordkysten (the fjord coast), a cycle route that runs along the coast between Bergen and Sogn.

Summer Skiing in Western NorwaySummer Skiing
There are three Summer Ski Centres in Norway, all of them located on glaciers. Stryn Summer Ski Centre is located on a glacier arm of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. Galdhøpiggen Summer Ski Centre is the one with the highest altitude in Norway. The Folgefonna Summer Ski Centre is located at the north end of the Folgefonna Glacier, close to Jondalen in Hardanger.

Skiing in Western NorwaySkiing with Fjord View
Norway is "made for skiing". Specially in the west and north where you have endless ranges of mountains, and where you can ski from almost 2000 metres and down to the fjords. Choose between several great Ski Centres, or use your own legs to reach the summits. The reward are fantastic nature experiences and great skiing.

Glacier Walks in Fjord NorwayGlacier Walks
The Jostedalsbreen Glacier in Sogn og Fjordane is the largest ice-cap in Northern Europe. It is one of the greatest playgrounds in Norway among skiers and ice-climbers. In April and May, you can ski across the snow covered Jostedalsbreen ice-cap. Folgefonna and Hardangerjøkelen are two other popular glaciers. During the summer, crampons are used for walking and climbing on the glacier-arms. Several companies are guiding on the glaciers in western Norway.
