Besseggen and Gjende Lake - 1999 |
 |
The walk started from Gjendesheim, and the first hour is steep before it flattens towards the top Veslefjellet at 1743 meters. The path was as expected crowded, this is probably the most popular place for mountaineering in Norway. Since nearly everybody walked the opposite way, we met many people that day. The view from the top was fantastic, with the green lake Gjende below us and wild mountains and glaciers all around.

| Besseggen & Gjende in Jotunheimen - 1999 |
| |
The ridge Besseggen was narrow, but it was easy to walk. Luckily it was not raining. Down at Bandet, we had the blue lake Bessvatnet to the right and the green lake Gjende to the left nearly 400 meters below us. Continued the walk through easy terrain until we started the descent. 6½ hours after the start we arrived Memurubu. Now it was time to take a quick shower and to put on some dry clothes before the dinner was served.
The next day the sun was shining from a clear blue sky. After a good breakfast, we put on the shorts before we started the walk back to Gjendesheim. We followed the path along the lake Gjende. Easy walk with a few steep parts at the beginning. We were temptated to take a quick swim in the lake, but after measuring the temperature in the water (9 degrees Celcius) we decided only to dip our toes in it. We had many short breaks along the lake where we enjoied the nice nature and the warm and sunny day. After 4½ hours we were back to where we started the day before, tired in muscles and bones but fresh in our minds.
