Mountaineering in Fjord Norway |
 |
Hiking is very popular in Norway. There are places where you can walk for days without meeting other people, or more "crowded" areas like Jotunheimen and Hardangervidda. The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) have a total of 342 huts spread around the country, in addition of hundreds of huts owned by other associations. In most of the huts, there are food, firewood and gas, and you can get a key from DNT which fits to all the huts. The best time for hiking in Norway are from June to September. Below, you will find some travelogs from Western Norway and from other great areas in Norway. |

Walking along the Nærøyfjord
It had to be a "turbo-tour" to Sogn this time. After some planning and a few telephone calls, I knew where and when to go. When I got on the train towards Bergen, I could look forward to a day on bike along the Flåmsdalen Valley, a fjord cruise on the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord and a walk along the Nærøyfjord. |

Hiking in the Aurlandsdalen Valley
The Aurlandsdalen Valley is one of the most popular hiking goals in Norway. Many use a weekend, and combine this walk with biking along the old Rallarvegen. This description is from the lowest part of the valley, a 20 kilometre long path with beautiful scenery. |

Hiking over Besseggen in Jotunheimen
Finally, we should walk over the Besseggen ridge, and the weather showed its best side. This hike, perhaps the greatest classic in Norway, starts at Gjendesheim or Memurubu, mountain lodges situated on the shore along Lake Gjende at 984 metres above sea level. |
