Mountaineering (or walking) is very popular in Norway. There are places where you can walk for days without meeting other people, or more "crowded" areas like Jotunheimen and Hardangervidda. The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) have a total of 342 huts spread around the country, in addition of hundreds of huts owned by other associations. In most of the huts, there are food, firewood and gas, and you can get a key from DNT which fits to all the huts. The best time for mountaineering in Norway are june to september.
