Mountaineering in Fjord Norway |
 |
Hiking is very popular in Norway. There are places where you can walk for days without meeting other people, or more "crowded" areas like Jotunheimen and Hardangervidda. The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) have a total of 342 huts spread around the country, in addition of hundreds of huts owned by other associations. In most of the huts, there are food, firewood and gas, and you can get a key from DNT which fits to all the huts. The best time for hiking in Norway are from June to September. Below, you will find some travelogs from Western Norway and from other great areas in Norway. |

Walking along the Nærøyfjord
After some planning and a few telephone calls, I knew where and when to go. When I got on the train towards Bergen, I could look forward to a day on bike along the Flåmsdalen Valley and a walk along the Nærøyfjord in Sogn. |

Hiking in the Aurlandsdalen Valley
The Aurlandsdalen Valley in Sogn is one of the most popular hiking goals in Norway. Many use a weekend, and combine this walk with cycling along the old Rallarvegen (the Navvies Road) in the same area. |

Hiking across Besseggen
Finally, we should walk across the Besseggen Ridge in the Jotunheimen National Park, and the weather showed its best side. This hike is perhaps the greatest classic in Norway. |
