WINTER IN AURLANDSFJORD AND NÆRØYFJORD

Winter 2017, I had a trip to the Sognefjord together with furmanek.com. We joined a fjord cruise and visited Stegastein viewpoint above the Aurlandsfjord.

We took a fjord cruise with the new hybrid-boat Vision of the Fjords, a great experience despite the weather. It was cold and it was snowing heavily, and the sight was not so good. But we could feel the winter, the snow and the cold fresh air in our faces. It was a “cool” experience.

The fjord cruise ended in Gudvangen, a small village at the innermost part of the Nærøyfjord.

In the evening, we drove the Aurlandsfjellet National Tourist Route, from Aurland and up to the Stegastein Viewpoint. It was late evening and dark. We were lucky and could see the Northern Lights in addition to the great view towards the Aurlandsfjord.

The road up to Stegastein is open all year round, but during winter the road is closed in the high mountain, between Stegastein and Lærdal on the other side of the mountain.

Next day we headed back home. A short but great fjord adventure was over for this time.

It is easy to understand why more and more people discover how beautiful and exotic the Norwegian Fjords are during winter.

The fjords is a great playground for those who want to ski, go snow-shoe hiking, take a winter-cruise or join a RIB-boat on the fjords or just take in the cold, crispy air and enjoy the beautiful winter-landscape.

On the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord, you can do a Fjord Cruise all year round, and it is possible to experience it from Oslo or from Bergen in one day.
