Grotle and Grotlesanden Beach are located west on the island of Bremangerlandet towards the Atlantic Ocean outside Måløy in Nordfjord. You can take a ferry from Måløy to Oldeide or drive via Leirgulen and Skatestraumtunnelen tunnel  to get there. Måløy – Oldeide is an eight-kilometer long ferry trip, which is an adventure in itself.

From Oldeide you drive westward, over the mountain pass to Bremanger. Then continue further west past Iglandsvika to Grotle which is located on the western side of the island of Bremangerlandet.

Grotlesanden Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Norway. There are also several other beautiful beaches along the four kilometer long stretch between Hauge and Grotle, but Grotlesanden is the most beautiful and the one that most people visit.

Grotlesanden are actually two beautiful beaches of a total of 800 meters, only divided by Grotlesholmen with a parking lot and sanitary building with toilets.

Since Grotlesanden Beach is located on the coast towards the Atlantic Ocean, the temperature in the water is usually not that high. But a swim in the clear water is a fresh experience, so you can rather enjoy the chalk-white sandy beach and warm up with a sunbath afterwards.

It is also nice to bring your fishing rod and try your fishing luck from the reefs around Storholmen and Grotlesholmen which divides the Grotlesanden Beach in two.

NOTE – It happens that the storms are so violent in the fjords and on the Western Coast that the waves strikes far above land. When the storm is at its worst and the large waves strikes land, you need to be careful and keep safe distance to the water! Bare rock face are often very slippery. Remember that approximately every seventh wave is extra big and high! This can vary from place to place, some places the frequency is somewhat lower or higher. It is important to take precautions for this.
