Kirketaket.com – Skiing to Kirketaket in Romsdal – 2019/2020 Season

Kirketaket (1439 masl) is voted among the top 10 mountains in Norway for Alpine Ski Touring by the Norwegian Ski Magazine “Fri Flyt”. Here you can read about the Snow Reports we got in the 2019/2020-Winter-Season.

The skiing up to Kirketaket takes around 3 to 5 hours. From the summit, there is more than 1000 vertical metres (3000 feet) of great skiing down to the mountain dairy of Kavliheian which is situated at the foothill of the mountain.

 

Snow Reports – Winter 2019/2020

21 Mar 2020 – 100 cm Snow – Temp -4 deg C
ENG: -4 deg C and sun from the morning today. 5 cm fresh snow at Vårseterjeln, much more fresh snow in the heights. The sun gave a good temperature, and the snow was affected by this and was wet in the lower parts of Kirketaket. Some skiers at Kirketaket and on the surrounding mountains, and had a great day skiing to Kirketaket. Report: Odd Hatlen
NOR: -4 og sol fra morgenen i dag. 5 cm. nysnø på Vårseterjeln, men mye nysnø i høgda. Sola varmet godt, så snøen ned fra Kirketaket ble mer og mer kram jo lenger ned en kom. Men passe med folk og kjempefin dag på tur. Det var endel folk på de andre fjella også. Rapport: Odd Hatlen

 

14 Mar 2020 – 110 cm Snow – Temp -6.5 deg C
ENG: 40 to 60 cm fresh snow since yesterday, and -6.5 deg C, sun and fantastic skiing conditions! Windy in the heights, so I stoppet at Steinberget below Kirketaket and was skiing to Galtåtind instead. Lot of skiers in the mountains today.😁 Report: Odd Hatlen
NOR: Det kom mellom 40 og 60 cm nysnø i går, og i dag var det – 6,5 grader, sol og fantastiske forhold. Det blåste godt i høgda så jeg snudde på Steinberget. Mye folk på ski i dag, på alle topper. 😁 Rapport: Odd Hatlen

 

08 Mar 2020 – 80 cm Snow – Temp +11 deg C
ENG: Mild weather today, plus 11 deg C. The snow has been sinking to 80 cm today, wet and heavy snow. No skiers at Kirketaket today due to strong wind, but some skiers seen at Galtåtind. 😁 Report: Odd Hatlen
NOR: Mildvær i dag, pluss 11 grader. Snøen har sunket til 0,8 m, den var kram og tung i dag. Ingen på Kirketaket i dag grunnet sterk vind, men det var endel folk på Galtåtind som jeg kunne se. 😁 Rapport: Odd Hatlen

 

29 Feb 2020 – 110 cm Snow – Temp -6 deg C
ENG: Sun and minus 6 deg C, since yesterday new  fresh 20 cm snow. Lots of dry snow almost to the summit today (Loftskardtind). Windy at the summit of Loftskardtind. Lots of nice people skiing on all of the summits  around Kirketaket today, and also a great bunch of skiers on Avalanche Course 😁 Report/Pictures: Odd Hatlen
NOR: Sol og minus 6, det kom 20 cm snø i går. Det var tørr nysnø nesten til topps. Men det blåste godt på toppen. Men mye trivelige folk på tur på alle topper, pluss en stor gjeng på skredkurs 😁 Rapport/Bilder: Odd Hatlen

 

15 Feb 2020 – 100 cm Snow – Temp +/-0 deg C
ENG: Half a meter with fresh snow during last week, dry snow above the timberline. The snow starts to be affected by the wind in the upper parts of the mountains. Sunny and nice today, many skiers in the mountains. Temperature above O deg C in the lowland and below 0 deg C in the hights. Reported by Odd Hatlen
NOR: Halv meter med nysnø siste uke, tørr og fin til over tregrensa. Begynner å bli vindpåvirket i høyden. Sol og fint i dag, mange folk på tur. Temp. litt på pluss i lavlandet, litt minus i høyden. Rapportert av Odd Hatlen

02 Feb 2020 – 50 cm Snow – Temp: 0 deg C
ENG:
Snow and fog today, wind in the heights. Temperature around 0 deg C at the measure point, just a few minus degrees at the top. Heavy but good snow in the forest, Poor visibility above the Timberline. Lots of skiers having fun skiing in the forest today😁 Reported by Odd Hatlen.
NOR: Snø og tåke i dag, vind i høgda. Temperatur rundt null, og så vidt under i høgda. Tung men god snø i skogen, dårlig sikt over tregrensa. Masse folk som koste seg med skogkjøring i dag 😁 Rapportert av Odd Hatlen.

Travel information

Kirketaket seen from Åndalsnes Railway Station. Photo: Jaroslaw Stefanski – @Jarek777You can reach Isfjorden by car, 6 hours from Oslo or 4 hours from Trondheim. By train to the end-station Åndalsnes at one of Norways most spectacular railways, Raumabanen. You can see Isfjorden and Kirketaket from Åndalsnes Railway Station (Left Picture, Photo @jarek777).

From Åndalsnes, it is only a short Taxi-drive to Isfjorden Shooting range, the starting point of the Kirketaket ski trip. The nearest airport is in Molde, then one hour by bus to Isfjorden.
