Kannesteinen at Vågsøy

Kannesteinen is a three meter high mushroom-shaped rock that has been formed by ice and the waves and moving stones from the ocean during thousands of years.
It is a great experience to see this special stone, a wonderful work of art made by nature itself. In the summer, when the weather is nice, you can experience Kannesteinen in the sunset. On the horizon, you can then see the Atlantic Ocean “meeting” the sky in strong and beautiful colors.

There is a parking lot just beside the seaside and a trail down towards the beach where Kannesteinen is located.
It is only a few meters from the parking lot to the viewpoint where you can see Kannsteinen and the beautiful view towards the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains encircling the bay.
NOTE – It happens that the storms are so violent in the fjords and on the Western Coast that the waves strikes far above land. When the storm is at its worst and the large waves strikes land, you need to be careful and keep safe distance to the water! Bare rock face are often very slippery. Remember that approximately every seventh wave is extra big and high! This can vary from place to place, some places the frequency is somewhat lower or higher. It is important to take precautions for this.
